The People's Emergency Briefing Comes to Aylsham

What would you do if you were told there was an emergency affecting every aspect of life in the UK - our food supply, health, economy, infrastructure and natural environment?

The organisers behind The People's Emergency Briefing believe that this is exactly the conversation the nation needs to be having.

A special screening of the film is coming to Aylsham, offering local residents an opportunity to see a thought-provoking documentary that is already being shown in communities across the country. The screening will be followed by a discussion, giving audience members the chance to reflect on the issues raised and explore what they might mean for our local community.

What is The People's Emergency Briefing?

The People's Emergency Briefing is a new 50-minute documentary produced as part of the National Emergency Briefing initiative, a public information campaign focused on the climate and nature crisis. The project grew out of a major event held in Westminster in November 2025, when leading scientists, economists, health experts, security specialists and environmental researchers presented evidence on the risks posed by climate change and biodiversity loss to an audience of politicians, business leaders and other decision-makers.

The film brings together the key findings from those expert briefings in an accessible format designed for community audiences. It examines how climate and nature-related challenges could affect everyday life in the UK, from food production and public health to economic stability and national resilience. At the same time, it explores the practical responses and opportunities that supporters of the project believe are available if action is taken now.

Presented by wildlife broadcaster and environmental campaigner Chris Packham, the film seeks not only to explain the challenges ahead but also to encourage informed public discussion about possible solutions.

Why Are Community Screenings Taking Place?

Unlike a conventional documentary release, The People's Emergency Briefing has been designed specifically for community screenings. The organisers believe that some of the most important conversations about the future should happen face-to-face, within local communities and alongside local decision-makers. Following each screening, audiences are invited to take part in a facilitated discussion to reflect on what they have seen and to consider possible responses at local and national levels.

Hundreds of screenings are now taking place across the UK in village halls, community centres, libraries, churches and local venues. Organisers encourage local MPs and civic leaders to attend wherever possible so that communities and decision-makers can engage with the same evidence together.

Feedback from screenings elsewhere suggests that audiences have found the experience both informative and engaging. While the issues discussed are undoubtedly serious, many participants have described leaving with a sense of optimism and a greater understanding of the choices available to society.

Why This Matters to Norfolk

Norfolk's landscape, coastline, farming communities and natural habitats are among the county's greatest assets. Questions about climate resilience, food production, biodiversity and environmental stewardship are increasingly part of public discussion both nationally and locally.

Whether you are deeply engaged with environmental issues, curious about the science, interested in public policy, or simply keen to understand more about a subject that is frequently in the news, The People's Emergency Briefing offers an opportunity to hear evidence, perspectives and proposals brought together in a single presentation.

Importantly, the screening is intended to be inclusive and welcoming. You do not need any specialist knowledge or prior involvement in environmental campaigns to attend.

The aim is to provide information, encourage discussion and create space for thoughtful conversation.
