About the event
Step back into Aylsham's textile past and discover the traditional skills of spinning and weaving with the Worstead Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers.
Guild members will be demonstrating the fascinating processes involved in turning wool into yarn and cloth, using a traditional spinning wheel and loom - sights that would once have been familiar in homes and workshops across Norfolk.
Textiles played an important part in the history of Aylsham and the surrounding area, with hand-loom weavers working from home as part of the local cottage industry. Now the Worstead Guild is helping to keep these traditional skills alive, sharing its knowledge through demonstrations and encouraging people of all ages to discover the satisfaction of making something by hand.
Best of all, you don't just have to watch! Visitors are welcome to have a go at spinning and weaving for themselves, making this a wonderfully hands-on experience for families, history enthusiasts…
