About the event
The film is a biographical account of the early career of Bob Dylan (Chalamet) from about 1961 to 1965, beginning with his arrival in New York as a folk singer, until his controversial use of electric instruments at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.
Starting with Dylan’s visit to meet his dying hero Woody Guthrie, he connects with Pete Seeger, who recognises his talent and helps to promote him and secures him a management deal. Dylan, however, is obliged by his label to perform only folk songs, but after four years of struggle, finally breaks out to become a world-renowned writer and performer.
Although the film takes certain liberties with chronology and characters, it is ultimately a successful portrait of one of the greatest of modern musicians with Chalamet’s performance being exceptional.
