Slow Food
Slow Food Aylsham was formed in 2005 . . . part of the international Slow Food movement, founded in 1989 in Italy and now a global, grassroots organisation with more than 100,000 members across more than 160 countries.
We work to preserve and promote our food heritage, campaign for healthy food, celebrate the rich food traditions of the area, and encourage people to shop local.
Slow Food Aylsham has become an important part of the Aylsham community. The three-day annual Food Festival every October is our showcase event when we work with local producers, chefs and businesses to help people think about the food they eat and how it’s cooked.
We enjoy a presence at the Aylsham Show, and hold the annual Great Aylsham Snail Race, one of our fun activities for children and adults.
Throughout the summer months, together with our sister organisation Cittaslow Aylsham, we hope to be in Aylsham Market Place at the Food & Craft Market (the first Saturday of the month).
The group has published three simple, easy-to-follow, recipe books, Canny Cooking 1, 2 and 3, and donated nearly 500 books to the North Norfolk Foodbank to encourage those who receive food parcels to get the best out of their rations. It costs just £5 – all profits go to the foodbank.
We meet once a month but need your help to continue to promote all that is good about local food.
